Day 1: Arrival at the Airport
You will be greeted by your corporate guide upon arrival, who will then take you to the hotel you have reserved for the night.
Day 2: Bujumbura – Rumonge
A cultural safari of Bujumbura, Burundi’s capital, will take half a day of your first day in the country. Join us on a tour of two national parks: Ruzisi and Independence Hero. At Ruzisi, you may take a boat trip through the park’s hippo and bird habitats. An intriguing vista of Bujumbura can be had by ascending the belvedere. You will later stop by the explorer’s memorial, a massive rock on the outskirts of Bujumbura that marks the spot where the illustrious European explorers Stanley and Livingstone met. Stay at Resha Saga Resort for the night.
Day 3: Source of the Nile – Karera Waterfalls
After you have your breakfast, take a drive through scenic countryside and sprawling tea plantations on your way to the Nile River’s headwaters. The breathtaking Karera waterfalls are waiting for you—get your camera ready! After that, you’ll continue driving to Gitega, Burundi’s former colonial capital. Go to the Tropitel Hotel Gitega for the night.
Day 4: Travel to Gishora Drum Sanctuary
Today you will get the opportunity to see the colonial architecture of this former capital and peruse the ethnographic and archaeological treasures housed in the National Museum in Gitega. Afterwards, make your way to Gishora, a world-renowned drum sanctuary, to witness a live performance. Immerse yourself in the vibrant Burundi culture at this drum sanctuary. Murimirwa, the sanctuary has ceremonial drums. No beating of the ceremonial drums is ever performed. The Bitimbo also use the sanctuary’s regular drums for ceremonial purposes. Stay at the Tropitel Hotel Gitega for the night.
Day 5: Kigwena Reserve – Rumonge Fishermen.
After you have your breakfast, head out to Kigwena National Reserve for a chimpanzee, owl-faced monkey, and baboon-spotting woodland walk. After a picnic lunch at Blue Bay, you’ll have the afternoon to swim, play volleyball or tennis, or just relax on the beach. Once you return to Bujumbura, spend the night at Hotel Le Chandelier or a comparable establishment.
