A Detailed 3 Days Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes Self-drive Road Trip
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
A company representative will collect you from your hotel in Kigali or the airport and guide you on a tour of Kigali city, including a visit to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial and local markets, before proceeding north to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze Province, formerly known as Ruhengeri. Arrive late and check in to your accommodation for supper and overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Volcanoes Lodge (Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or La Palme (Mid-range), or Muhabura Hotel (Basic).
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking – Ibywacu Cultural Village
Awake early for breakfast at your accommodation, equipped with essential tracking gear and a packed lunch, you will go for the park headquarters for a briefing before embarking on the thrilling journey with the ranger guides. The duration of hiking for gorilla observation is significantly influenced by the behaviour of the gorillas, as they are wild animals inhabiting the jungle. Your ranger guide possesses a general understanding of their location, as he talks with colleagues who venture into the forest beforehand to monitor gorilla movements. It is highly important to be equipped with essential gear and packed lunch as you go on the arduous yet exhilarating trek. A maximum duration of one hour is permitted with the Gorillas.
Following the meeting, proceed to your accommodation for lunch, and in the afternoon, engage in a cultural experience at the Ibyiwacu cultural hamlet to gain insight into Banyarwanda culture. Evening meal and overnight accommodation.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking / Dian Fossey Tomb Hike and transfer to back Kigali
In the morning, you must proceed to locate the primates, including the golden monkeys, baboons, and other others. Proceed to the Lodge and make preparations for the journey back to Kigali, followed by transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
