4×4 Self-Drive Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana
Self-driving in Moremi Game Reserve requires a fully equipped, high-clearance 4×4, as you will navigate deep sand, mud, and seasonal water crossings. Most travelers start in Maun, rent a 4×4, and spend 3 to 10 days traversing South Gate, Third Bridge, Xakanaxa, and Khwai (North Gate) before continuing to Chobe National Park.
Moremi Game Reserve is one of the most magnificent reserves in Africa and is located in the east of the Okavango Delta. This is spread over 4871 square kilometres of natural wilderness with varied landscapes including savannah, twisting creeks and deep woodland. This diversified ecology supports an exceptionally wide spectrum of species from enormous herds of buffalo, wildebeest and zebra, to the rare sitatunga and lechwe antelope, lion, cheetah and packs of wild dog in the open grasslands. The birdlife is extensive, containing most of the 550 bird species documented on Botswana’s national bird list. The reserve boasts several luxury lodges which provide guests with an ideal base to explore this slice of heaven.
